FADE IN:
EXT. QUAINT PIZZA JOINT - NIGHT (PRESENT DAY)
Danny's car pulls up to the curb. MARIA sits in the passenger seat, gazing at the warm glow of the restaurant lights.
DANNY
Here we are. Go grab us a table. I'll park and be right in.
MARIA
Alright. Don’t get lost.
Danny smirks. Maria steps out and walks toward the entrance. As she stands near the door, she pauses, looking in through the window. Her reflection stares back at her. A wave of memories washes over.
DISSOLVE TO FLASHBACK:
INT. SMALL COFFEE SHOP - DAY (2016)
LINDA sits across from MARIA, stirring a cup of tea. There is warmth, but an undercurrent of seriousness in Linda’s eyes.
LINDA
You know, you and I are the only two people who really get Danny.
MARIA
I guess we’ve both had our fair share of dealing with him. (laughs)
LINDA
No, I mean it. We’re the two women who… loved him the most.
Maria stops stirring her drink. She shifts uncomfortably.
MARIA
Linda, that's…
LINDA
It’s okay. I know. (softly) I’ve been feeling this weight lately. Like something’s coming. I can’t explain it.
MARIA
You're not going anywhere, Linda.
LINDA
But if I ever do… I need to know someone’s there for him. Maria, you’re the only one I trust with that. Promise me.
Maria meets Linda's eyes, struggling to respond.
LINDA (CONT'D)
Please.
MARIA
(softly, but firmly) I promise.
DISSOLVE BACK TO PRESENT DAY:
EXT. QUAINT PIZZA JOINT - NIGHT
Maria exhales deeply, returning to the present. Danny approaches, holding two bottled sodas.
DANNY
They ran out of parking spots. Had to fight a guy for a spot three blocks away.
MARIA
(smirking) Sounds like you.
They step inside together.
CUT TO:
INT. CLASSY HIGH-RISE RESTAURANT - NIGHT
ERIN and JACK sit at a table near the window, the city skyline stretching behind them. Their table glows with candlelight.
JACK
I still can’t believe Jamie stole our thunder with that baby announcement.
ERIN
Tonight, we fix that. No interruptions. Just us.
JACK
Agreed. What were we thinking waiting so long?
NICKY suddenly appears beside the table, grinning.
NICKY
Okay, I’m here!
Jack stands to pull out her chair.
JACK
Sit down, honey. Glad you could make it.
CUT BACK TO:
INT. PIZZA JOINT - NIGHT
Danny and Maria sit across from each other in a cozy booth. The air between them feels lighter now.
DANNY
I’m supposed to be the smartass with something to say for everything, but here I am, speechless. Feels weird being on a date with you.
MARIA
Danny, for years, every moment with you has felt like a date.
Danny blinks, caught off guard by her sincerity. A soft smile forms on his face.
CUT TO:
INT. CLASSY HIGH-RISE RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Nicky sips her water, glancing down at Erin’s left hand. She notices a simple, elegant ring.
NICKY
Umm… Mom?
Erin looks up, pretending not to notice. Nicky’s grin widens.
NICKY (CONT'D)
Is there something you forgot to tell me?
JACK
Surprise.
NICKY
Congratulations!
They all join hands briefly in celebration. CUT TO Danny and Maria in the same pose, holding hands across the table. The screen SPLITS, showing both tables simultaneously. Love, family, and connection mirrored across the two locations.
FADE OUT.
